Lyrics by Eric Pastoral
|
Laughing with the left eye, crying with the right,
I couldn't help but wonder if I'd make it through the night.
There's a golden bough of fire selling flowers on the street
I'd tried to take her solitude, but I couldn't stand the heat.
I stayed in bed for hours waiting for the night to come
While the marching band below me had to march without a drum.
There's a poet in my closet loaded nearly to the floor,
His words are made of marble and he can't hold them anymore.
Chorus:
Oh, I'm senseless,
Lord, I'm senseless.
I'm ragged, I'm defenseless,
But lord, I'm senseless.
There's a pilgrim at my doorstep with a book of holy prayers,
There's a preacher in the graveyard, and he wants to meet me there.
I gave a dime to charity but it isn't working yet;
Some give to remember and some give to forget.

Not many rock bands quote Chaucer, but that's our Eric... love the big "churchy" sound we got on this one. Would love to do a new recording of it, though... |
